Annual reports 2015 & 2016

What is it?

A report created annually that provides an analysis and assessment of the financial trends of the business over the past year. The Indiana State Library sends out 2 different reports each year. The first report is of the Indiana State Library itself. This report shows the growth of the library and new programs or structures that have been added to the library. The second report is based on all of the public libraries in the state of Indiana. The second report also features specific stories from libraries across the state.

how it started

The process for both reports take on the same guidelines. They are usually done in the same format, color, and content. The content for the state library report comes from the Library Development Office, and the content for the public library report comes from the Professional Development Office and other sources. The start of the report is a dummy draft that consists from 18 to 34 pages. The state library report generally has less information than the public library report. Once a draft is made up, it goes between the communications department and the State Librarian to make sure it will look appealing to the audience(s).

The text content is written by the communications director and images are taken by the communications department, or given to us by public libraries. Some photos may be stock to help fill up space.

At the end process, the state library report is given to the division directors in the state library to make sure the information is accurate and portray the best aspects of the library. The public library report is looked by various people to check for mistakes, and to make sure the stories are accurate from the information the department received.

Around 400 to 500 reports are printed to send out to public libraries and lawmakers of the Indiana Statehouse.
